Ilkley Talking Newspaper has thanked two local student volunteers as they leave the charity prior to their A-level examinations.

Alice Bullock, of Ilkley Grammar School, and Jack Coen, who attends Bradford Grammar School, have both worked as technicians over the last two years.

Alice is planning to study English literature at Nottingham University, and Jack medicine at St Andrew’s.

Harry Tingle, lead technician, presented book tokens and thanked the students.

He emphasised how highly the charity valued their contribution and wished them both well in the future.

Now the talking newspaper is urgently seeking additional technicians to replace Alice and Jack.

Ilkley Talking Newspaper is prepared by around 75 volunteers organised in teams which operate on a rota basis. Apart from technicians and readers, there are groups of editors, copiers and administrators.

Anyone interested in working as a technician would need to be confident working with a computer, but full training is given. More editors are also currently needed.

Weekly CD recordings from The Ilkley Gazette and monthly extracts from The Dalesman magazine are distributed, free of charge, to people unable to read a conventional newspaper. This may be as a result of sight impairment or physical disability. Anyone who would like to receive the talking newspaper should also contact Harry.

Contact Harry Tingle on (01943) 607043 for more information about either role.
