Members of Otley’s new Business Improvement District are being asked to make their first payment towards the scheme.

Traders voted to create Otley BID Ltd – which will raise £370,000 over the next five years to be invested in the town centre – in a postal ballot in February.

The project requires all firms within the BID area to contribute one per cent of their full rateable value each year through until 2018-19.

Otley BID spokesman Rachelle Atkin, of The Dandelion Consultancy, said: “Bills are being sent to the businesses from Leeds City Council this week and Otley BID are asking that these are paid promptly so we can begin investing about £370,000 over the five-year term.

“The company directors are dedicated to bringing sound and measurable improvements to the town of Otley, as set out in the business plan, but this cannot be achieved without the required income.”
