The two-week countdown to the launch of the 2014 Otley Word Feast has begun.
This year’s annual celebration of the written and spoken word begins with a Grand Opening Feast at Korks Wine Bar from 7pm on Friday, March 28.
The evening will see the Town Mayor, Councillor Pam Gill (Lab, Manor) presenting prizes to the adult winners of the feast’s market-themed creative writing competition.
There will also be entertainment from local writers and performers, a supper, book stall and a chance to mingle with established authors.
A variety of literary workshops, meanwhile, will be held across town on Saturday, March 29, at several venues, including Otley Courthouse, Otley Library, the Garden School and the Labour Rooms.
Local businesses including Victoria Plum Cafe, The Fleece and The Bowling Green pubs, and Korks Wine Bar will also host some of the creative writing events.
The feast’s concluding day, Sunday, March 30, will feature a Walk with Words, the launch of Spokes, a locally compiled poetry anthology in celebration of cycling, and a Gruffalo walk for families.
