An Ilkley man has been appointed general manager of York City Football Club John McGee, 58, will take up the role on Monday, April 7.
He is retiring from his position at Yorkshire Bank as regional head of the portfolio, assurance and advisory team for the north of England.
He has worked for Yorkshire Bank since leaving school, starting at the Otley branch and later returning there as manager in 1989.
Passionate about football and knowledgeable about issues within the game, John has also worked with a number of professional football and rugby clubs in his roles at Yorkshire Bank and has a good insight into the operations of businesses within the sport industry. He has links with several other clubs and is a keen Sheffield Wednesday supporter.
York City chairman Jason McGill said: “We are looking forward to John joining the team as we look towards our move to the new community stadium in 2016.
“He is extremely experienced at a senior level and will be responsible for implementing the board’s strategy for the Club going forward. Our aim is to achieve gradual improvement on and off the pitch and we feel John’s appointment will greatly benefit the daily operations of the business.”
John said: “I have had 41 wonderful years with Yorkshire Bank, where I have gained valuable business experience working with really great people, both staff and customers.
“I’m really looking forward to my new challenge at York City, which I feel is a club run by people who have its best interests at heart and which has an exciting future ahead including the advent of the new Community Stadium.
“I am passionate about the game of football and I hope my background can benefit the business in many ways and in particular the supporters’ experience.
“I will be as accessible as possible to all the staff and supporters and look forward to meeting everyone when I start my role in April.”
John Hooper, executive director of Yorkshire Bank said: “John has been a terrific servant of the bank and will be missed by customers and colleagues alike.
“He has made a real difference over the years and I am sure he will bring huge enthusiasm and professionalism to the new role.
“We wish him every success going forward and will be watching the results of the club with a keen interest.”
