Ilkley Soroptimists hope to give a further boost to sports facilities in the town by securing an outdoor table tennis table for a park.

The professional women’s organisation is trying to get an outdoor table for the Riverside Gardens park in Ilkley, under a scheme linked to the London 2012 Olympics.

Ilkley Soroptimists previously raised money to create a public tennis rebound wall at Ilkley Pool and Lido, on Denton Road.

Now they hope to further encourage sport and healthy activities by bidding to secure one of the table tennis tables for the town.

A representative of the Soroptimists last week met Ilkley Parish Council to ask if councillors would support the idea of installing the table in the park, for residents and visitors to play the sport.

Talks have also taken place with a nearby business, where it is hoped players would be able to borrow bats and balls to play in exchange for a deposit.
