Full details about the 2014 Otley Word Feast have been announced.

This year’s celebration of all things literary will run from March 28 to 30 and feature everything from writing workshops and a poetry slam to a Gruffalo Walk for children.

The activities, many of which are free, begin at 7pm on Friday, March 28, when the Grand Opening Feast will be held at Korks Wine Bar.

The evening will include music, spoken performances and a supper, with Town Mayor Councillor Pam Gill (Lab, Manor) presiding over a prize-giving ceremony for the adult winners of the feast’s market-themed writing competition.

The organisers are promising that Saturday’s schedule, meanwhile, will have “something for everyone”. Events include:

  • A Kickstart Your Writing breakfast at The Bowling Green pub
  • Writing workshops for all levels of experience, speakers, and children’s activities in Otley Library
  • An open mic session poetry slam for young people, in association with Prince Henry’s Grammar School.
  • A Write a Novel in a Weekend workshop at Otley Core Resource Centre, and
  • A Writing Children’s Fiction session at Otley Courthouse.

Poet James Nash will be reading from his latest collection when he presents Sonnets and Scones at Victoria Plum, on Bondgate.

The celebration weekend’s final day, meanwhile, will feature the launch of poetry anthology Spokes, which celebrates all things cycling, at Korks Wine Bar.

Other activities on Sunday, March 30, will include a Walk with Words, led by Otley Walkers, and a children’s Gruffalo Walk.

Feast programmes can be picked up at Otley Library, Otley Courthouse and other venues around town, and can be viewed online at otleywordfeast.org.uk.

Booking and ticket information is available at otleycourthouse.org.uk.

Otley Word Feast is supported by Otley Town Council, Leeds City Council, the Co-operative Community Fund, Leeds Inspired, Otley Town Partnership, Otley Library, Otley Courthouse and local businesses.
