An Otley supermarket worker who gave up her locks for charity has handed over the proceeds to the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.

Sainsbury’s employee Kate Hobson raised £1,240 for the fund, which supports Leeds General Infirmary’s children’s heart surgery unit, by having her head shaved in January.

Kate travelled to Leeds recently to present a cheque to the charity’s events co-ordinator, Debbie Field. She had undertaken the fundraiser in memory of five-month-old Ella Louise Newson-Smith, the late daughter of her colleague, Hannah Reynard, and Jamie Newson-Smith, who both supported Kate’s effort.

Her shaved-off hair has also been put to good use, by being donated to The Little Princess Trust, which produces wigs for children who have lost their hair due to hospital treatment.
