Otley-born rugby union legend Mike Tindall has described his joy at becoming a father for the first time.
The former England captain tweeted that the birth of his and his wife Zara Phillips’ daughter last Friday was “definitely the best day of my life”.
The royal baby, Mia Grace, – who weighed 7lbs 12oz – was delivered at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, with the father present at the birth.
Mr Tindall, whose father Phil played for Otley RUFC for ten years, also tweeted his thanks to the hospital staff: “Big thanks to all involved at Gloucester Royal, they were fantastic!”
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, who are silver medal winning Olympian Zara’s grandparents, and the families of both parents all expressed their delight at the news.
Mike Tindall was born at Wharfedale General Hospital, Otley, on October 18, 1978.
