Partial victory on Dales bus service as it is set to continue

A bus route linking Ilkley with the Yorkshire Dales is set to continue as a limited service, despite North Yorkshire County Council agreeing to cut about £2 million in bus service subsidies.

The county council this week agreed to push ahead with the savings, almost double what was originally planned prior to a recent consultation.

The cuts will mean the withdrawal of some rural bus routes with reduced timetables on other routes, plus changes to some school bus services and fares.

The service cuts are expected to come into force in April and May, while school bus changes will be introduced in time for the next academic year in September.

But earlier proposals to stop the subsidy to the Service 74 have been amended. It is now proposed to retain a limited service of three return journeys between Ilkley and Grassington.
