Ben Rhydding Scouts and Guides boost appeal to rebuild their HQ
3:30pm Monday 23rd December 2013 in News
Scouts and guides are asking individuals, groups and businesses to lend support to their bid to raise tens of thousands of pounds for their new headquarters.
The appeal to rebuild Ben Rhydding Scout and Guide headquarters recently gained a double funding boost, with grants of £10,000 and £25,000.
But they still need to raise about £80,000.
In recent weeks the group learned they had been successful with grant applications to Ilkley Parish Council and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
The Parish Council agreed to donate £10,000 as part of its programme to support local projects that benefit the community.
The second massive boost was from the Garfield Weston Foundation who awarded a £25,000 grant to the group.
Ilkley’s longest serving Guide Leader, Pam Clarke, said: “We are over the moon with these further grants. We want to express our thanks to the Parish Council, Garfield Weston Trust and all the other groups and individuals that have leant us their support, ranging from letter of support, to many generous donations.
“We are making great progress and are hopeful with a final push we start the re-build in the spring.”
She added: “We still need to find approximately £80,000. We have applied to several other grant awarding bodies but would love to hear from any other individuals, groups or business that would like to lend their support.”
