An airline has stepped in to provide a Southampton service from Leeds Bradford Airport after the route was dropped by Flybe.

The airport moved quickly to safeguard services after learning that Flybe planned to withdraw from the route from January.

Now Eastern Airways is expanding its route network to include the services in the New Year.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s aviation development and marketing director, said: “We are delighted that Eastern Airways is growing their route network at Leeds Bradford. The continuation of Southampton services linking Yorkshire will be welcomed by regional businesses and cruise passengers. Leeds Bradford look forward to working with Eastern Airways to make this route a success.”

Last week Flybe confirmed it was withdrawing 30 routes.
