New Arthington station hopes
4:50pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
A bid to electrify the Leeds to York railway line has been welcomed by the group campaigning for a new station in Arthington.
Harrogate Chamber of Commerce has confirmed the multi-million pound plan, recently backed by North Yorkshire County Council, which could see the line electrified before the end of the decade.
The chamber believes the scheme would double the frequency of services and lead to a 20 per cent increase in passenger numbers over those of the past five years.
Arthington Station Action Group believes electrification will also boost its chances of getting a station in the village again.
