Councillors donate cash for Yeadon High Street Christmas lights
3:40pm Sunday 13th October 2013 in News
Visitors to Yeadon High Street will have a Christmas display to remember thanks to a grant from local councillors.
A £4,155 grant was agreed by councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Sandy Lay.
It will pay for the installation and maintenance of lights in Yeadon High Street as well as contributing to the annual switch-on event, due to take place in late November.
The cash comes from the local area committee’s wellbeing budget and is a £600 increase on last year’s funding allocation.
Coun Campbell said: “I always look forward to Yeadon’s Christmas lights switch-on.
“Not only does it help get local people into the festive spirit, it also provides a welcome shot in the arm for retailers at their most important time of the year.”
Coun Lay said: “The Yeadon Christmas lights switch-on is always a great event for the town to start the countdown to Christmas and I’m confident that this year’s event will be better than ever.” Coun Downes added: “The Christmas lights in Yeadon help give our local economy a festive boost and encourage local people and visitors alike to spend money on gifts from our shops, buy food and drink and to come and enjoy the high street while it is lit up for Christmas.”
