Airport bus service 967 from Otley under threat
11:00am Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
A bus link between Otley and Leeds-Bradford Airport is under threat.
The 967 service connects the airport with Otley, Menston rail station and Pool-in-Wharfedale.
But at this week’s meeting of Leeds Passenger Consultative Committee it was said the bus could be withdrawn as the airport has told Metro it no longer wishes to support the route. Metro has said it will work out a new timetable to keep Otley, Pool and Menston linked, but councillor and West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority board member Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) has concerns.
He said: “The service was introduced as part of the airport’s responsibility to increase the number of passengers and employees accessing the airport via public transport.
“Withdrawal will mean Otley residents will have to use cars or taxis. This is very bad for the environment and will increase traffic congestion.
“I shall be asking council officers to pursue this matter with a view to retaining the whole route.”
