Vicar will give talk on role of the church in inner cities
2:03pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
The second in a series of talks at Bolton Abbey’s Priory Church will take place on Friday, October 18, at 7pm, when the Rev Alistair Helm will speak on ‘The Church In The Inner City’.
Mr Helm is currently vicar of St Paul’s, Manningham, but has reached there by a very unusual route.
He started life as a chartered accountant, but found the job insufficiently exciting, so joined the Leicester Police.
During 30 years’ service with them, Alistair rose to Detective Chief Superintendent, while, in 1991, he was ordained as a non-stipendary minister. On retiring from the police, he became a full-time priest and served a group of parishes based on Giggleswick, from where he went to Manningham.
He thus has a unique understanding of inner city areas from a number of aspects and so is ideally qualified to talk about the problems and opportunities impinging on the Church as it tries to serve such areas.
Entrance is free and parking is at the Priory.
