Call for meeting on replacement for Ilkley's Coronation Hospital
1:37pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
A ward councillor has been in talks with health service heads about the still-uncertain future of plans to build a replacement for Ilkley’s Coronation Hospital.
Councillor Mike Gibbons (Con, Ilkley) had a meeting with representatives of NHS estates management and commissioners of health services in the area, to ask about the future of the rebuild.
He said: “After a private meeting, it has become obvious that the next step forward is for services to be commissioned at the Coronation site, and have therefore asked for both commissioners and asset management to meet at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Coun Gibbons, who is chairman of Bradford Council’s Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee, is to ask for the Coronation Hospital issue to be added to the agenda of the committee’s next meeting.
The hospital, in Springs Lane, came under threat more than a decade ago when a hospital trust was in financial difficulties. Ownership of the building passed over to Airedale Primary Care Trust, and PCT consultations concluded a new centre should be built to replace the ageing cottage hospital.
