Charity for the homeless appeals for backing for fundraiser
11:00am Saturday 14th September 2013 in News
A charity which is supported by people across Horsforth and Aireborough is appealing for backing for one of its fundraisers.
Caring for Life, in Cookridge, has been working with homeless and vulnerable men and women for the past 26 years. The charity has individual supporters in areas stretching as far as Ilkley – and a number of churches and community groups from the surrounding area raise money on its behalf.
Now its vital work is being given a boost by restaurant manager Marc Short, who is competing in the 60-mile Hardmoors race on the East Yorkshire coast on September 21.
Marc, manager of Salvo’s Salumeria in Headingley, is hoping to raise £500 with the tough challenge.
He is preparing for the event with a weekly 35-mile route that goes up and over Ilkey moor and back via Guiseley and Menston.
He said: “I have come to know and love the work that is done at Crag House Farm on behalf of the charity Caring For Life, which helps homeless and vulnerable men and women in the city of Leeds.”
Pam Parkinson, CFL PR Officer said “Caring For Life is so grateful to Marc and Salvo’s for their help and interest in a group of people who often fall through the net of care in the city of Leeds.
“Many of those in our care have known only abuse and neglect since childhood and we help them to ‘pick up the pieces’ of their lives.”
