A former Otley woman has just whizzed through her 104th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Louie Piotrowski still takes total care of herself and is so nimble that her son Jim Yates said they struggle to keep up with her.
“She didn’t want a Zimmer frame, but now she’s got one she races round as if it’s a Ferrari,” joked Mr Yates, 73.
Born in Leeds, Louie married Frank Yates and moved to Otley in 1939 where their sons Peter and Jim grew up.
A keen member of Otley Choral Society, she also taught ballroom dancing while working as a nurse and was later the warden of sheltered housing in Menston.
“Mum always loved singing and even sang to us as she cut her birthday cake on Thursday, waving the knife like a baton,” Mr Yates said after the celebration at Duchess Gardens Care Centre, Bingley, where his mum now lives.
After Mr Yates’ father’s early death, Louie married Polish millworker Ted Piotrowski, who died 21 years ago.
