Sarah Smith, who will hold a fundraising coffee morning in Otley this month, has a very personal reason for helping Macmillan Cancer Support.
Sarah, of Bramhope, has the charity to thank for letting her grandmother be cared for at home in her final days – so giving her the opportunity to meet her great-grandson.
Sara has organised a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at Otley Cricket Club, from 10.30am, on Friday, September 27, that will include tea and coffee, cakes, and a raffle She said: “The reason for us taking part in the event is fully down to the help our family got when my grandma was ill.
“Macmillan allowed my grandma to come home to die, as she wished and, from my perspective, they allowed her to meet her great-grandson, Samuel.”
Lots of local companies, including Club Energy Health Club, Innovation Hair Studio, Beauty Box, Wharfedale Wellness & Fitness, and GeHo Events have donated raffle prizes for the fundraiser.
Fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, Clara White, said: “We are so delighted to have the support of Sarah in Otley and the event would not be possible without the fantastic support of Otley Cricket Club, too.
“The event there last year was one of the most successful in the area and everything they raise really will make a massive difference to the lives of cancer patients.”
The next Macmillan coffee morning in Otley, meanwhile, will take place at the Methodist Church ,from 9.30am to 11.30am, on Friday, September 13, and include cakes and stalls.
The charity’s Otley and Wharfedale Fundraising Group is also preparing for its 2013 World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at Yeadon Town, Hall, on Friday, September 27.
Featuring coffee and tea, light lunches, a raffle, tombola and a variety of stalls, the event runs from 10am to 2pm.
