Airedale Hospital rated highly in cancer patient care
9:00am Sunday 8th September 2013 in News
Airedale has been rated one of the top hospitals in the country for involving cancer patients in their care.
An NHS England survey also showed that almost eight out of 10 patients – 78 per cent – described their care as excellent or very good.
The figure, which compares to seven out of 10 the previous year, puts Airedale Hospital among the country’s top 20 per cent.
The survey was part of the National Cancer Patient Experience Programme, which examines adult cancer services provided by 155 acute hospitals.
Airedale – where 304 patients took part – scored highly in a number of categories, from provision of care and patient involvement to the information given by medical staff.
Julie Livesey, lead cancer manager at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are very pleased with the results of this year’s survey.
“In particular, we are delighted that even more of our patients feel involved in their care and treatment which is one of our primary goals.
“We will be studying the results and comments in detail and working closely with all staff involved to develop an action plan to help improve the patients’ and families’ experience.”
