Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis is spreading a little magic by raising money for a charity that aims to change lives.

The actor, who found fame as Neville Longbottom, is supporting the Leeds Rugby Foundation by taking part in the Bupa Great North Run in Newcastle on September 15.

Matt is a vice-president of the foundation, which runs projects to encourage people to harnesses the power of sport to improve their lives.

He will join deputy chairman Bob Bowman and Leeds Rhinos head of youth performance Barrie McDermott in the event.

Matt said: “I really appreciate everyone who is supporting us whilst we take on this challenge.

“I have been training hard as I know what fantastic work Leeds Rugby Foundation does in the community and I am keen to raise as much money as possible to help them continue their great projects.

“Any support that you can give will help us to reach our fundraising target and keep us motivated for every step of the 13 miles. A huge thank you to everyone who donates.”

Lucy Owen, chief executive of Leeds Rugby Foundation said they were delighted the actor had taken on the challenge.

“Matt is one of the charity’s vice-presidents and does so much in that role to support the organisation, but this really is going above and beyond the call of duty,” she said.  “In taking part in the Great North Run, Matt is helping the foundation to help even more people in our local community have access to life changing opportunities. All the money Matt raises will help us change even more lives through sport and we simply can’t thank him enough.  “Matt is a fantastic role model for young people today. He has already achieved amazing things in his career to date, but has never forgotten where he grew up and does whatever he can to help individuals from Leeds who need an extra helping hand to be the best that they can be.  “Leeds should be very proud of him, I know everyone at Leeds Rugby Foundation is.”
