Firms thanked for support as crowds enjoy Ilkley Flower Show
7:53pm Friday 30th August 2013 in News
Hundreds of visitors went to see flowers, produce and crafts on display at the 60th annual Ilkley Flower Show.
Fifty exhibitors put on a great show of flowers, produce, craft, photography, baking and preserves at the Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road.
In the floral art section, the dahlias were particularly spectacular and there were some interesting entries in the “unusually shaped vegetable” category.
Presenting the prizes, Councillor Mike Gibbons, Leader of IPC, paid tribute to the exhibitors for their splendid showing and to the Flower Show Society Committee for all their hard work.
Judith Dunn, of Ilkley Flower Show, said: “The Committee would like to thank local businesses and individuals for their support in taking out adverts in the schedule and donating special prizes.”
She added: “The president, Alan Titchmarsh, gave a signed copy of a book as a raffle prize, bringing a welcome boost to funds. Thanks also go to the judges and to Lishmans of Ilkley and Clevedon restaurant for providing (respectively) cold meats and delectable desserts for judges and helpers on very favourable terms.”
The date for next year’s show has not been fixed, but is likely to be the third Saturday in August. The categories for the 2014 photography classes will commemorate WWI: Shot At Dawn, Fallen And In Flight (novice).
