Cookridge Golf Club captain chooses Bethany’s Smile charity
6:12pm Sunday 18th August 2013 in News
A golf captain has boosted the fundraising efforts of a Horsforth schoolgirl by presenting her with a cheque for £650.
Bethany Hare was presented with the cheque on Thursday by Mike Robinson, captain of the senior golfers at Cookridge Hall Golf Club.
Mr Robinson read about Bethany’s fundraising activities and decided to choose to support Bethany's Smile during his year of being captain. The funds were raised at a charity day and topped up by a raffle.
Bethany said she was delighted to receive the support as she needs it desperately if she is to reach her £300,000 target for Smile Cottage.
The 14-year-old set up her charity Bethany's Smile in December 2011 to help families who have children with chronic illness or short-life expectancy. Supported by her mum Yvonne, she has raised £46,000 in two years.
Other fabulous recent donations have been £500 from Handpicked Hall and £3,000 from Simply Health. Bethany is hoping that other companies and individuals will also choose to support Bethany's Smile.
Asda Living in Guiseley will be celebrating their first birthday party on October 26 and will be raising funds for Bethany's Smile on the day with lots of fun things going on.
Bethany has also had an office donated free of charge by Channon Construction in Shipley and is looking forward to really getting things moving from September.
Her mum Yvonne said: “We are also looking for volunteers - if any readers have any spare time and would like to get involved with setting up Bethany's Smilers Club and contacting local businesses with information about the charity.”
