Four local music acts will play to thousands of festival-goers after impressing at a competitive battle of the bands contest in Keighley.

Mark and Abi, of Yeadon and Wibsey, and fellow West Yorkshire artists Jade Helliwell, St Somebody and Down Radio were the winners of the Bingley Music Live Emerging Talent competition held in Victoria Hall.

Judges included Terrorvision lead singer Tony Wright, and the evening also featured a performance from Holy Moly and the Crackers, who have already been booked for the festival.

Each of the eight bands had three songs to impress the judges and to earn what will be for many of them the biggest gig of their careers, playing on the same stage at Myrtle Park as Human League, Primal Scream and Chic.

Each winner will open one of the two stages on the Saturday and Sunday.

Festival organiser Andrew Wood said: “We always like to showcase local talent and it is a great platform for them. They were all excellent, so my commiserations to those that didn’t get through.”

There are still ten acts to be announced for the festival, which runs from August 30 to September 1.
