SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL: The group has held its AGM and installed Katharine Jex as president and Kath Mitchell as president elect. This was followed by a faith supper with a display of blankets and bonnets knitted by the knit and natter group for LGI’s Neo-Natal Department. Their next project is Macmillan Dolls as Katharine’s charity this year is Macmillan Nurses. The principal fundraising will once again be the Garden Wander on Sunday, June 30, with open gardens in Yeadon. The summer outing in July visits the Assay Office in Sheffield followed by an afternoon tour of Oakwell Hall. Several members sadly attended Joan Hardy's funeral. She was aged 97 and in 1967 was a founder member of SI Aireborough. Two members helped with a bag pack at Sainsbury’s in Greengates in aid of Champion House, the Leonard Cheshire Home in Calverley, and five members of the knit and natter group visited the Neo-Natal unit at the Clarendon Wing of LGI to deliver more than 100 blankets and hats which they have been knitting over the past two years. Received by Nurse Sue Oddy, the blankets will be used both at LGI and St James’ hospital for premature babies. The group were able to see some of the work done in the Intensive Care and High Dependency Units.
