Wartime evacuee in search for Otley host family

A war-time evacuee is seeking information about the Otley family she stayed with. Elizabeth Irons, nee Hughes, was sent to the town from Brighton during World War Two and lived with John and Phoebe Stockley Bateson, who worked part-time at the local Salvation Army centre. Now Mrs Irons, 80, is writing a book about her memories of Otley and the war, and is keen to talk to anyone who knew the couple, who lived on Walkergate and had three children, Barbara, Dorothy and David. Anyone who can help should e-mail kmcmyler@yahoo.co.uk.
