Cake sale to help Guiseley boy walk

A charity cake sale and coffee morning this weekend will raise money to help a little boy to walk.

The event, at Guiseley Methodist Church, on Saturday, will raise funds for the Wesley’s Wish charity appeal.

The appeal has been launched by the family of Wes Knight, who was born with brain injuries. He has cerebral palsy, cannot crawl or sit and is unlikely to be able to walk without special treatment in the USA. His parents Catherine and Tim, from Guiseley, have launched a website – wesleyswish.org – to help raise £95,000 for the operation and three years of intensive physiotherapy.

Wes, who is almost 18 months old, started life in intensive care after being born nine weeks prematurely.

Despite apparently doing well, a routine scan picked up bleeding in his head and it was found that part of his brain had permanently stopped working.

He faces the prospect of life in a wheelchair unless funding can be found for the specialist operation.

The coffee morning will include a cake stall, Mother’s Day gifts and Wii games. Tables cost £20 for local crafts.
