An Ilkley mother and daughter are running the London Marathon on April 21 for Team Run For It.

Emily Atkinson, who is a care assistant at Kitwood House dementia unit, at Glen Rosa residential home in Ilkley, will run her first marathon alongside her mum, Dr Steph Atkinson, who is a GP at Ilkley and Wharfedale Medical Practice.

They are busy training and will raise money to help improve the lives of older people. They have a fundraising target of £1,850.

All the money raised will be used to help the one million older people who are lonely or out of touch with modern life.

As joint official charities for the 2013 Virgin London Marathon, YouthNet and Age UK have teamed up and will recruit young volunteers to help older people get up to speed with the web.

As older people learn how to use the online tools that young people access so readily, they’ll discover how easy it is to keep in touch with their communities, friends and families.

Emily and Steph can be sponsored at their fundraising page: virginmoneygiving.com/team/emandsteph or by contacting Ilkley and Wharfedale Medical Practice or Glen Rosa residential home.
