The number of property sales and strong viewings in Wharfedale is growing so far this year, according to a leading estate agent.

Dacre, Son & Hartley, in Wells Road, Ilkley, said the national trend showing a sales growth is being mirrored in West Yorkshire.

Patrick McCutcheon, head of Dacres residential, said: “It’s great to see the number of completed transactions rising as confidence surrounding the market continues to grow and we’ve experienced a similar trend across our network throughout West and North Yorkshire.

“Although a comprehensive market recovery is still to occur, we seem to be through the worst of the recession.

“I think it has been a very definite upturn in the number of viewings across the majority of price ranges since the beginning of the year. Over the last couple of weeks we have seen a definite step up in the number of offers being made.

“This is encouraging as although January can be a positive month, February is traditionally less so.”

Mr McCutcheon said in Ilkley the mid market houses price between £275,000 and £600,000 is also looking much better than it was.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors noted that in the UK, sales had grown for the fourth month in a row in January, according to its latest housing report.

The RICS January 2013 housing market survey also highlights how prices remained broadly stable during January and reveals that respondents are optimistic that prices will start to rise later in the year.
