Advice on offer to Otley residents on rogue traders

Older residents in Otley will receive tips about how to deal with rogue traders and scams at two forthcoming events.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards’ SAFER (Scams and Frauds Education for Residents) project is holding advice sessions for Otley Action for Older People in March and April.
Both will take place at Weston Lane Youth Centre, with the first, at 2.30pm on Monday, March 25, focusing on doorstep crime and financial health.
The second session will talk about scams, frauds and utility switching and takes place at the same venue, and same time, on Monday, April 29.
Funded by the Big Lottery, SAFER’s goal is to educate older residents so they can spot and repel would-be conmen.
Project officer Carrie Wilson said: “This is a community protection and empowerment programme, working alongside older adults, aiming to provide residents with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves against rogue traders and scams.
“It will also provide frontline advice and support to those already in crisis from such activity.”
