“Speak out” is the message being spread across the district during National Eating Disorders Week.
During the week (February 11 to 17), staff at Bradford District Care Trust will be encouraging young people and their families to get the care, treatment and support they need.
The Care Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health team supports young people and their parents who are experiencing all forms of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating.
Lisa Stead, team manager, said: “It can take a long time for people with an eating disorder to accept or even recognise there may be a problem.
“To tackle an eating disorder can be very scary for people. This is why we work closely with the young person and their family and support them throughout every step of their journey.”
The eating disorder service is made up of psychologists, nurses, family therapists, a consultant psychiatrist and dietitian.
Support includes daily meal time supervision, family and individual therapy and weekly weighing.
