It can be such a drag finding glittering stilettos in a size ten – but that was the problem facing the leading ‘lady’ in one of Broadway's glamorous musicals.

Andrew Walton needed the extra large shoes and a glamorous wardrobe for the forthcoming production of La Cage Aux Folles at Yeadon Town Hall in March.

The search for stilettos could easily have been a headache for Yeadon Amateur Operatic Society's costume director Sandra Landells – but she was given expert advice from Joan Walsh, owner of Tip Toes Shoe Shop at Guiseley.

With experience in both fashion and modelling, Joan travels extensively to buy collections for her shop which has a reputation for distinctively different footwear.

She has been able to advise the company on where to source the shoes it needs for its leading lady/man and the glamorous cagelles – who aren’t what they may seem!

The musical features the well-known hit I Am What I Am and the story is comical, romantic and touching. While the title may not be well-known, the film version, The Birdcage, is known to millions. La Cage Aux Folles runs at Yeadon from March 12 to 16. Tickets are available by ringing 075706 10989.
