Crackdown on crime leads to several arrests along A65
2:40pm Thursday 7th February 2013 in News
Police have made a number of arrests in a crackdown on crime along the A65 corridor.
Officers stopped and searched 83 people and 58 vehicles last weekend, in an operation which focused resources on Horsforth, Rawdon, Yeadon and Guiseley.
Inspector Richard Coldwell, who heads the Aireborough and Wharfedale Neighbourhood Policing Team, said eight people were arrested for burglary and conspiracy to burgle, two were arrested for robbery, four people were arrested for drugs offences, and two for public order.
One person was picked up for failing to attend court, another was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and a drunk driver was also stopped.
Officers executed a number of search warrants at homes around the area and visited three pubs which were on their radar for under-age drinking.
Insp Coldwell said: “What we are trying to do is be as scientific as possible and look at where things are happening and where things are going to happen.”
Over a four-night period officers also paid more than 50 intervention visits to known offenders to deter them from stepping out of line.
“We remind them to stay on the straight and narrow – it seems very simple but it works,” said Insp Coldwell.
