ST PETER’S CHURCH: Last Sunday’s Family Service celebrated Candlemas, the Christian festival of lights, with a candle-lit procession round the church by the children and their parents and the monthly evensong also had a Candlemas theme. The season of Lent will soon be upon us and there will be a weekly Lent study group starting on Friday, February 22, from noon to 2pm in the church hall, with a group on Wednesday evenings for those unable to attend on Fridays. These groups will be using the book Abiding by Ben Quash. A coach will be going to Bradford Cathedral next Sunday for all those wishing to attend the Rev Barbara Clark’s installation as a canon of the Cathedral. On Sunday, February 24, there will be a Fairtrade breakfast in the church hall from 8.30am which will mark the beginning of the national Fairtrade Fortnight. The usual midweek services of morning prayer and Wednesday communion continue and this week the Wulfherans held their AGM. Tonight is the monthly healing service at 8pm. As always, all are welcome.
ALLOTMENTS AND GARDENS ASSOCIATION: The association held its AGM on January 31 at Mount Hermon. We had an excellent turn out of members and response to our appeal for new committee members. All previous members of committee were re-elected and three new members were voted in to join them. Our chairman A Haigh gave a good report of last year’s events and hoping for support of our spring show in April and annual show in August. We still have some interesting speakers for current season. Our next meeting will be a talk by M Myers called Water in the Garden on Thursday, February 28, at 7.30pm in Mount Hermon. Everybody welcome. The meeting closed with refreshments enjoyed by all.
