People gathered at Christchurch in Ilkley yester-day to pay their last respects to prominent community figure Brian Bailey.

Mr Bailey, 70, of Rupert Road, Ilkley, died on January 20.

He was known to many as a leading figure in the revival of Ilkley Carnival, described as a “lynchpin” of the annual Ilkley Summer Festival, and was also a popular local entertainer, performing with bands Moldy Warp and Five Dollar Shoes.

His wife, Miggy Bailey, is a former Ilkley Parish Council clerk, and is current clerk to Keighley Town Council.

Current and former local councillors, and members of Ilkley community organisations, were among those who attended the funeral service at the town centre church, on The Grove.

Mr Bailey’s family requested that those attending the service wore bright colours.

They asked for any donations at the service to be given to the British Heart Foundation or Ilkley Cricket Club.
