Street repairs are ‘slip-shod’ says Ilkley councillor

Bradford Highways has been criticised by an Ilkley councillor for not watching the work done by the utility services on The Grove.
Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) told an area committee meeting in Keighley the Grove received a national design award when it was designed ten years ago, but subsequently repairs had been carried out in a “slip-shod” way.
She said: “The Council should have insisted that the reinstatement work was done to a better quality.
“We now also have cracked flags due to delivery vans mounting the pavement and tarmac repairs plus the street furniture needing painting.”
After the meeting she called for something to be done and suggested that the joint funding allocated to the ward councillors towards town centre environmental works should be allocated for that purpose.
“We cannot tolerate tarmac repairs on this high-profile shopping street as an example,” she added. “It is not a huge amount but we can at least make a start.”
