Ben Rhydding man gets training for marathon as penguin!
Visitors to an Ilkley pub and restaurant this Saturday may be surprised to see a penguin in training for the London Marathon.
Ben Rhydding student Andy Sharpe, 24, plans to run the London Marathon on April 21, raising money for money for Clic Sargent, which supports young children who have cancer.
He hopes to raise £3,000 for the charity.
Mr Sharpe is recovering from a knee operation, and as part of his return to full fitness – and to muster extra support for his fundraising – he plans to don the penguin outfit and train on an exercise bike and rowing machine at The Lister Arms, South Hawksworth Street.
He and six workmates at the pub plan to use the exercise equipment all day, between 9am and 11.30pm.
“My knee recovering is going very well and I can now use an exercise bike and hopefully be running inside four to six weeks with my current physio down at Optident Clinic in Ben Rhydding,” said Mr Sharpe.
