See the stars at screening of Otley Chevin sci-spoof
1:08pm Friday 11th January 2013 in News By Jim Jack
A home-made film that shows Otley Chevin in a completely new light will receive its first screenings this weekend.
Planet Of The Baybes, a spoof sci-fi musical, has been a ten-year ‘labour of love’ for its creators Ian White and Wassef Massaad.
Produced on a shoestring budget, the two-hour movie features an array of local amateur actors and uses the Chevin as an alien landscape.
It will be shown at Otley Courthouse at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, and director and co-producer Mr White – a veteran of more than 30 local pantomimes – is hoping many of the cast will attend.
The 46-year-old, who is a sign writer by day, said: “A lot of the cast are now spread all over the country, so some are travelling up from London and others down from Scotland to be at one of the screenings.”
Mr Massaad, a well-known agent on the local working men’s club scene, said: “We’d like as many of the cast as possible to be there, but the public are welcome too.”
The film tells the story of a washed-up ex-starship captain who is summoned back into action by a distress call from an old colleague he has to track down, encountering many weird and wonderful aliens along the way.
Tickets are available from the Courthouse or by calling the box office on (01943) 467466.
