An association attempt-ing to build a new bridge across the River Wharfe has asked everyone in a village if they can contribute.
Members and supporters of the Burley Bridge Association (BBA) have been circulating every household in Burley-in-Wharfedale, inviting financial contributions towards the next stage in the campaign for a bridge across the river.
A design for a suspension bridge at Greenholme Farm, Leather Bank, has been publicised since last year, and early returns show fundraising is going well.
The association says it needs to raise about £30,000 for the engineer-ing company Ramboll to develop the bridge design and take it to the local authorities for planning consent.
In later stages, fund-ing for the bridge will be by means of applica-tions to grant-making bodies, including the National Lottery, as well as by public subscription.
The BBA committee is to decide whether the appeal should be extended to areas beyond Burley. Visit burleybridge.com for further information.
