Yeadon scout achieves Queen's Award
Martin Bacon first ventured into scouting at the age of six and now, 19 years later, he has received the highest award in the Scout movement.
Martin, 25, a metallurgist, was presented with the Queen's Scout Award by District Commissioner David Threapleton at Yeadon Methodist Church.
Afterwards, Scout Leader Brian Greenwood continued a tradition by formally presenting Martin with the group's embossed Bible.
Martin, who joined his local beaver colony at the age of six, has progressed through cubs, scouts and venture scouts to become an Assistant Scout Leader at the 16th Airedale (Yeadon) Group.
More recently he became a Network Scout Leader within Central Yorkshire.
Whilst completing the Queen's Scout Award, Martin joined the UK scout contingent in Chile, Brazil and Australia, worked with the West Yorkshire Fire Service, learned Aikido, gained climbing proficiency and yacht qualifications and completed several walking expeditions.
The award is the highest available to those in the youth sections of the Scout movement.
One of the privileges it brings is the entitlement to attend the Queen's Scout Parade, which was held at Windsor Castle earlier this month.
