Richmond stars with bat on a day when bowlers dominate again
 |
| Burley batsman Jamie Davey hits out against Beckwithshaw |
ON a day when bowlers grabbed most of the honours due to the continuing wet wickets New Rover's Michael Richmond was thwarted just short of a century.
He finished with an unbeaten 96 from the opening spot as he steadied his side after a collapse against Upper Wharfedale.
The Grassington side had made a superb 240-4 with half-centuries from James Freebury and Andrew Foulds but with New Rover at 83-1 looked in some danger.
Then a batting collapse saw Rover lose three wickets in adding just nine runs and Richmond then had to steady the ship. They finished on 165-7 to draw.
Green Lane powered to six points after dismissing Otley for 157 thanks to good bowling from Neil Allitt (4-38 off 13 overs) and Scott Crosby (4-51 off 14 overs). Opener Stuart Smith made 49 for Otley and Alex Bailey 35 but Lane coasted home thanks to 37 from S Hargreaves and 28 from Vivek Mahajan.
Guiseley bagged another six points with skipper David Pennett again the inspiration with the ball after his side had been propelled to 170-9 by young Adam Waite with 57 from the opening spot. Pennett then bagged 4-24 off nine overs and Marcus Brown 2-16 off ten as Kirkstall were put out for 86 in reply.
Rawdon notched a fine win over Collingham dismissing them for 89 with Mark McEneaney bagging a six wicket haul at a cost of 39 runs form his 18 over stint.
Rawdon lost three wickets in gaining victory with opener David Wilkinson top scoring with an unbeaten 31 and Stuart Smith making 29.
Adel defeated Pool by one wicket after dismissing them for 119. Richard Henry top scored for Pool with 41 but his fellow batsmen struggled against the bowling of J Shires (5-39 off 18.4 overs) and Andrew MacCammond (4-32 off 25 overs). Adel lost nine wickets in gaining victory, last pair Bruce Rainford and J Shires holding out.
North Leeds gained a six wickets win over Bitlon after shooting them out for a mere 49. Doing the damage were Greg Kennedy with 4-24 off 16 overs and Nick Richardson 5-21 off 15 overs.
In Division Two Steeton rattled up 261-7 with a fine 78 from Andrew Luxton, 75 from I Page and 42 from Neil Spragg. They then dismissed Tong Park for 118 with Spragg completing a good all round performance with 3-25. He had excellent support from Gary Boulton with 4-20 off 18 overs.
Follifoot bagged the points in an eight wicket win over Olicanians who were dismissed for 120, S Bridson taking 5-43 and R Proctor 4-34.
M Stanford then made an unbeaten 63 to steer his side to victory.
Calverley topped 200 thanks to a fine 63 from opener S Alred and 47 from Basil King but Harden replied to their 217-8 with 131-8 to draw.
Last week's bowling hero Z Qasim grabbed the headlines again for Silsden taking a hat-trick in his haul of 6-46 off 16 overs as Colton fell for 117. Silsden then knocked off the runs for the loss of six wickets, Yasser Ali making a half-century.
In Division Three experienced Richard Harrison rolled back the years with a master class in seam bowling taking 7 for 24 for Ilkley against local rivals Ben Rhydding.
Paul Dover made a valuable contribution with the bat to set a target that Ben Rhydding had no hope of beating when Richard Harrison took early wickets.
Illingworth took all six points against Horsforth after dismissing them for 87 with three wickets apiece for R Dixon, P Venter and A Lees. Illingworth lost six wickets in gaining the win.
Hall Park, who sadly lost their Chairman Andy Forrest in mid-week following a long battle with cancer, paid tribute in the best possible way with a fine win over Woodhouse. Park totalled 169 with Craig Hobson top scorer with 38. Woodhouse were then dismissed for 136 with Nadeem Hanif bagging 5-65 and Jamie Simpson 2-1.
Second Teams
IN the Second Teams Rawdon beat Collingham by 62 runs with half-centuries from M Longley and J Hughes.
Otley fell to an eight wicket defeat by Steeton after being dismissed for 127 as P Hardwick returned 6-15 and D Cook 3-21. C Meehan hit 65 not out for the winners.
Barry Singleton's 5-42 helped put out Bilton for 142 and North Leeds went on to win by nine wickets thanks to 77 from opener Tim Hales.
Adel's 126 proved just a handful too many for Harden as R Mumford ensured victory with a 5-46 return aided by G Thorpe (3-25).
Kirkstall took four points to Guiseley's two in a drawn game in which C Abraham hit 48 for them. Batting star of the day however was Guiseley youngster Callum Fraser with 91 from the opening spot as Guiseley replied to 249-6 with 227-9.

D Chalk's 5-20 saw Hall Park put out for 115 and Colton went on to win by four wickets.
Ilkley's youngsters shone in the win at Beckwithshaw. Robert Spivey made an excellent 50 out of 172. Mark Coldwell and Henry Wilson then took seven wickets between them thwarting Beckwithshaw's attempt to get a two point draw. Wilson took their last wicket with a ball to spare.
The Spivey family nearly made a great weekend for the Ilkley club but were just denied at the end of an intriguing Birtwhistle Cup tie.
A great effort to get the game on was rewarded with an exciting match. Father Peter Spivey had two opportunities to win the game in partnership with sons William and Robert but tight fielding ensured that Tong Park got home by two runs only.
Pool had no answer to Calverley's 194-8 being put out for 84 as B Waller bagged 5-20. There was a top performance from Upper Wharfedale bowler T Baines who bagged 5-6 off nine overs as New Rover were dismissed for 55.
Henry Barrow's 46 was not enough to gain Addingham a win over Bolton Villas who had posted 201-5.
Olicanians bowler P Howell was the star of their 106 runs win over neighbours Ben Rhydding. He bagged 7-21 off 13.3 overs as Ben Rhydding were put out for 90. Earlier W Pearson had hit 64 and I Thomas 40.

Struan Connor, another emerging Ilkley junior, hit an excellent hundred and shared in a partnership of 98 with fellow 15 year-old George O'Hara, who struck a hard hitting 50.
James Harrison, another 15 year-old, showed that his father's skills as a bowler had been passed on with an excellent return of 3- 6 off five overs taking the heart out of Beckwithshaw's batting line up. Ilkley had posted 255 and Beckwithshaw hung at 96 for 9 to gain a point.
Rawdon's D Thomspon took 5-19 as Colton fell for 135 and Jamie Coulson struck 38 as Rawdon rubbed off the runs.
