Wharfedale Festival aims to hit high notes
THE 102nd Wharfedale Festi-val of Performing Arts opens on Saturday.
The first event is at 10am in the Riddings Hall, Ilkley, with songs from young vocalists and other exciting musical classes.
That is followed at 4pm by a variety of instrumental and vocal classes at All Saints Church, including three organ soloists.
It continues throughout the week, concluding on Saturday, May 17, at Riddings Hall and Craiglands, where one of the star attractions will be a mixed voice choir from Northern Ireland making their first visit to the Festival.
Festival Secretary Elizabeth Sharp said: "The Festival management is indebted to the General Manager at Craig-lands for offering accommodation for the four largest Festival sessions as the Kings Hall and Winter Garden is unavailable for use this year.
"Especially exciting is the prospect of holding Band Night in the hotel ballroom and we hope that audiences will make the extra effort to join us there for a relaxed cabaret-style evening of sup-erb entertainment. We do need audiences at each one of our sessions"
Tickets can be bought at any of the festival venues: Baptist Church Monday - Tuesday; Christchurch Wednesday - Saturday; Craiglands - Tues-day evening; Thursday morning and afternoon; Friday morning and afternoon and Saturday afternoon; Riddings Hall Saturday to Saturday excluding Sunday.
Tickets cost £2, children free. Programmes £3.50 will be available later this week at the Grove Bookshop and the Tourist Information Centre on Station Road.
The Celebration Concert and prize presentation will be held in Christchurch, Ilkley, at 7pm on Wednesday, May 21.
Tickets £5, concession £4, and these are available at the Riddings Hall box office throughout Festival Week and on the door at the event.
