Altofts 0 Otley Town 2
A COMPREHENSIVE win over seventh placed Altofts leaves Otley Town 13 points ahead of Leeds City as they sit proudly at the top of the table.

Town travelled to Altofts hoping to avenge their county cup defeat by the same opposition earlier in the season, while at the same time consolidating their commanding lead at the top of West Yorkshire League One.

Town began brightly in wet and blustery conditions, and soon had Altofts on the back foot. It was therefore little surprise when they took the lead, Joe Lunn forcing the ball home from close range following Tom Chadwick's in-swinging corner.

For the rest of the first-half Town remained in the ascendancy, going close on numerous occasions to adding to their lead. Lunn should have doubled his tally with a free header, and the Altofts keeper was forced to make a tremendous save at the feet of Steve Boddy following a flowing move.

Perhaps the best chance of all fell to Andy Carlton just before the break but his cross-shot rolled agonisingly wide.

The second-half began with Altofts determined to exert some pressure on the inexperienced James Davies in the Town goal. Their game plan was to pump high crosses into the box, hoping that the swirling wind would cause mayhem in the Town penalty area.

However, Davies proved more than equal to the task and the home side could make no headway with this tactic.

Mid-way through the second-half they were dealt a killer blow when Ben Greenhow slalomed his way though the midfield, avoiding numerous attempts to foul him, and delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Chris Alderson.

Alderson, usually masterful in such situations, has endured a lean spell of late by his own high standards, and it would have been easy for him to panic as the Altofts keeper rushed off his line.

He was still rushing as the ball was stroked calmly past him into the net.

The rest of the game was played out with little incident, and Town can now look forward in good heart to tonight,Thursday's, Wharfedale District Cup final against Yeadon Ventus. The game will be played at Guiseley's Nethermoor stadium, kick off at 7:30pm.

This latest West Yorkshire League Division One clash sees Otley having won 18 of their 23 league games and having a goal difference of 59 which could well come in handy when the final reckoning comes.

Town have played four games more then Leeds City so things could get tight at the top.
