I was heartened to read of the interest shown in developments at the nature reserve at Gallows Hill, Otley.
I would encourage any one to come to the annual meeting of Friends of Gallows Hill (FOGH), where we discuss and develop plans for the site, and if possible to join work parties which are arranged as and when volunteers are needed for work around the site.To be kept up to date with meetings and projects please send contact details to myself or the town clerk.
By the way, your readers who expressed concern at the path clearing should not be unduly worried, as the new growth will soon make up for lost ground in terms of wildlife value.
One of our tasks for next winter will be to lay the hedge facing the car park. Hedgelaying always looks rather alarming but over the next year or two will produce a much denser hedge providing better protection for the plantation, more nest sites and cover for birds and small mammals.
Hoping to see all those interested at the annual meeting, or on site.
Mike Blackwell,
Chair of Friends of Gallows Hill Hamilton Terrace, Otley
