Is there any wonder a major part of the community are losing touch with the countryside. I came across a member of the public frantically looking for help in ridding their community of an unwanted visitor. A large cockerel had taken residence in their road and no one wanted him.

In years past poultry folk would take him with glee now unfortunately he is a guy without gals. I did suggest they try the RSPCA. They had. However those supposed to look after wayward animals didn’t want to know. Neither did another group with interests in poultry. Then I was informed those who keep of hens were not allowed to cockerels. Why? Because they are noisy and disturb folks peace. We live in a rural area or haven’t folk in the valley realised that. I heard on the radio of the Government’s wish to bring sex education into schools. I have a suggestion for those MPs. Start teaching biology again. Therewith a generation will realise cockerels are part of the rural scene for they can’t have eggs without them. The same goes for the milk on the breakfast table. There is no milk without bulls. Nor meat on the dinner table. In the first much the same for vegetables and fruit we eat. All down to simple biology!
