OUR Lib Dem MP has continued his ill-judged attack on Otley Town Council’s decision to develop The Core Resource Centre, which he grudgingly described as a “rented shop”. This facility has proved popular and offers easy access and facilities to the residents of Otley.

The Civic Centre is, unfortunately like scores of similar buildings across the country, something of a white elephant. True, it gives some significance to Manchester Square, but is architecturally unremarkable (it does not rate a mention in Pevsner).

The cost of refurbishing the building, would be an order of magnitude greater than the cost of the10 year lease on The Core. This is without considering the cost of running such a building.

It seems unlikely that any such refurbishment would be fundable in the foreseeable future.
