I am writing to ask if readers would support the ‘No More Page 3’ campaign, asking The Sun to remove its outdated and inappropriate page 3.

I sincerely believe that Page 3 is harmful to both young boys and girls – it gives boys the impression that women are little more than objects, and it forces a patriarchal beauty standard upon girls and women every day.

How are women expected to be treated as equals when publications like The Sun think it fitting to act as if we’re here solely for the pleasure of men? Women have brains – we use them too and we achieve great things, just like men do. Little girls should not be subjected to the notion that to get into the news a woman should take her clothes off.

I have no issue with nudity – the human body is a beautiful thing, but its place shouldn’t be Page 3, which is so often sandwiched between headlines about sexual abuse.

With the shocking amount of women sexually assaulted in the UK each year, is it responsible for a national newspaper to be showing these images? The effects this kind of sexual objectification have on a society shouldn’t be ignored.

Portray women as objects, and they will be treated as such. That is not something that as a society we should want for our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.

The website nomorepage3.org includes all the information about the cause and links to the petition, which currently has more than 188,000 signatures.
