THE revival of The Manor House in Ilkley continues to gather momentum. Friday night was Jazz night when yet again The Friends of the Manor House hosted another inspiring concert.

Popular keyboard player Jamil Sheriff was to have been joined by Mark Chandler on trombone and trumpet. Unfortunately Mark had to withdraw owing to illness and Richard Iles stepped into the breach.

Jamil is a popular tutor at Leeds College of Music teaching on the conservatoire’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. As a composer, arranger and pianist Jamil has toured extensively throughout the UK and performed at national and international jazz festivals.

Having had a long career playing in bands which he has helped to form, Richard currently teaches for Bolton Music Service, musically directs one of the big bands at Chetham's School Of Music and teaches jazz trumpet at Birmingham Conservatoire on the jazz course.

An intimate and knowledgeable audience appreciated the lively and varied programme of sentimental and blues pieces – many from the past which kept the feet tapping.

The next concert at The Manor House will be a complete contrast with a programme of traditional Scandinavian and English folk and baroque music. Performing on a double bill on Tuesday, May 8 will be violinist Ida Meidell Blyodd alongside vocalists and traditional instrumentalists Mary Humphreys and Anhata. They will be coming hot foot from the Scandi Fest in Settle so don’t miss them.
