AFTER all the recent snow, the combination of sunny weather and Mike Kemp, guest DJ from Barnoldswick brought out over 80 Northern Soul aficionados to dance the afternoon away at Ilkley Soul Club's March all-dayer on Sunday, March 25.

The Hollygarth on Leeds Road was again packed with Soul enthusiasts from far and wide - Blackburn, Bradford, Burnley, Clitheroe, Ilkley, Harrogate, Leeds and Skipton - on Sunday to hear original soul sounds on the decks from four exceptional DJs who have spent most of their lives building up their special collections of rare 7" vinyl.

The majority of their records are from the USA, and were issued in limited numbers during the '60s and '70s on very minor labels. These factors have resulted in the singles being extremely rare and in some cases worth well over £1000 each. In some instances the only way to hear these tracks is at events like these.

The resurgence of Northern Soul in recent years has seen a dramatic increase in both the the number of events taking place and the number of people attending right across the country.

More than five hours of superb memories just seemed to flash by and after a rather exhilarating afternoon the crowd was soon making their way home with a spring in their step, all looking forward to the next Ilkley Soul Club event at The Hollygarth, taking place on Sunday, April 29.
