CLAPTRAP Theatre will return to Ilkley Playhouse with their production Blindfold, on Friday, April 13 from 7.30pm.

Claptrap specialise in gripping dramas and this brand-new ghost story by writer Tom Needham is sure to enthral.

Blindfold tells the story of two boyhood friends who went to fight for their country in 1914: only one came back. The lives of the three people closest to the fallen soldier never recovered from his death. Twenty years later, they start being haunted by a young man in a blindfold, and their lives change again as long-buried truths start to emerge...

Playwright Tom Needham is a Bafta-nominated writer with over a hundred television credits to his name. Amongst others, these include The Bill, Casualty, Cold Blood, Critical, EastEnders and Silent Witness. This is the fourth piece he’s written for the company.

Since its founding in 2007, Clap Trap (Doubt, Not About Heroes, The Wreckers, Broken) has toured throughout Yorkshire and far beyond; performing in a huge variety of venues including village halls, modern urban theatres, converted chapels, arts centres and private houses.

Founder member, Cal Stockbridge said: “We love ghost stories and we wanted to commemorate the hundred year anniversary of the end of WWI. So with these things in mind, we commissioned Tom to write us a play.”

Claptrap is grateful to the Ilkley Playhouse for the support it’s given the company over the last decade.

Asked if he believes in ghosts, Tom said: “One Christmas, staying with family and friends, a guest announced at breakfast that she’d seen a ghost in her room. Not once, but twice and that the reason for the second visit was to make sure she’d fully understood what the ghost had said. Said? Yup, and to warn her never to tell anyone the four sentences she’d been asked to remember or harm would befall a member of the household. As we took that in, the owner of the house said this had happened before. And what were the four sentences? No idea. So far, those the ghost has spoken to have refused to say....”
